You mentioned that “Western medicine does not claim to have a monopoly on knowledge…” which I agree and you then went on to say that it claims, however, the scientific method. The scientific method (empirical observations, hypothesis-testing, etc.) was actually first systematically developed and used by Alhazen (Ibn al-Haytham), an Arabic scientist almost a thousand years ago. The West have, of course, mastered it in many fields since. In my own interactions with undergraduates, say, many tend to think empirical sciences originated exclusively from Westerners (meaning Whites) and there is a need to rebel against it, without realizing that there is quite a strong tradition of shades of positivism and empiricism even among past non-White scientists beyond Europe. <br /><br />My thoughts…Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
