Lessons from My Houseman Year - 8

Lesson 8 - Love One Another

"Two are better than oneā€¦ for if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. "

Workload is never going to be equal, even if you each cover the same number of patients and wards, because each patient is different.

Some days you will be swamped, some days you will finish early.

You know when you are swamped that you will appreciate help from your colleagues who have finished their changes, so you know what to do when you finish early.

  • Finish early, go to the pub and loosen up lah.

This "Band of Brothers" bullshit is fine in theory but in practice, it's every man for himself!

    Hee Hee.

  • you always help...but no one cares about you. After awhile, you don't give a shit.

Well if you want to be cynical about it, then it is like you scratch my back then I scratch yours.

Whether camaraderie exist depends on a lot of factors :)

Anyway I think it is a good rule to live by to help people, but don't expect too much. It is easier to withdraw something when you have deposited.
